Fake Eyelashes
Asian lashes tend to be on the short and sparse side. They also tend to stick straight out and so it is vital that we curl out lashes to give it that open-eyed look. I can’t stress how much of difference this makes (not just you Asian ladies, but ladies of every colour, white, black, purple and blue!) as makes you look more awake and your peepers are enlarged.
Fake eyelashes are great add-ons for Asian gals ranging from subtle, natural ones for daytime wear to full-on glamour with diamond-tipped lashes for those wanting to add a bit of bling. They are produced in strips or clumps and applied directly on to the eyelid using adhesive that dries solid on the lashes and lid.
They used to be a joke, the preserve of drag queens and ageing dolly-birds who’d never quite got over the Sixties, but right now, fake eyelashes are enjoying a renaissance with every celeb worth her gold sporting them, from J-Lo to Cheryl Cole. They have become so acceptable that even the ultra-stylish Michelle Obama wore them on her visit to London recently - and not bespoke extensions, but a strip of gloriously obvious stick-on lashes!
LASH KNOW-HOW
- Trim the strip of false lashes to the right length for your eyelid before you start.
- Most false lashes have a self-adhesive strip, but most experienced wearers prefer to run an extra line of eyelash glue along the lashes before positioning them (let it dry for 10 seconds before you press them into place), to prevent one end flapping loose halfway through the day.
- If the union of false and real lashes doesn’t look seamless, apply liquid eyeliner over the top, to hide the join.
- For a less startling look, use individual lashes, set among the outer edges of your eyelashes.
Personally, I prefer the individual lashes and I have found that the best ones on the market are Ardell Duralash Naturals Individual Eye Lashes. They look most natural when you apply a few in between your lashes (ensure you curl your real eyelashes first) and spanning it out towards the outer corners. Finish off by applying a coat of mascara so that the fake lashes blend in seamlessly with your real ones. I have found that the cheapest ones that you can get are from Sally Beauty stores either in person or online here for only $3.99 per pack.
For those who prefer the invidual eyelash strips, Ardell once more, tops the market for being the leader in the fake eyelashes stakes. You cannot go wrong with Ardell Fashion Eye Lashes, with their wide range of lashes from naturally flirty to full-on luscious lashes guaranteed to turn heads. Priced at only $3.49 per pair, it is a bargain at Sally Beauty Supply when you shop online. Free shipping with any online purchase over $50 and if you quote promo code 555138 at checkout, you will receive a free Aura Rosemary & Mint Shampoo & Conditioner with any order while supplies last.
However there are some disadvantages to wearing fake eyelashes:
- They can look totally fake
- They can feel heavy and uncomfortable
- They can cause natural lashes to drop out
- They often last only a few days
If you wish to go for something a bit more permanent, then eyelash extensions may be the way forward for you.
