Eyelash Transplant

Fake eyelashes can indeed be very fiddly and cumbersome to put on every day. On a similar note, eyelash extensions are not permanent as they require touch ups every 2 months or so. If you are seeking guaranteed long, luscious fluttering eyelashes PERMANENTLY, that’s for life, ladies… then an eyelash transplant could be the final best option.

Asian lashes tend to be sparse and stick out straight. I’ve always been fortunate in having full lashes albeit on the short side and unlike the majority of Asians, my lashes do not stick straight out, they have a curve to them. However I had been a faithful wearer of fake eyelashes for years until I decided to go for a transplant (yes, you heard right!) back in  2005 as I wanted to have long lashes 24/7.

♥♥♥It is one of the best beauty choices I have ever made and you can read my earlier post on this detailing my experience and view the pics (don’t worry, they’re not gruesome!)♥♥♥

Using a procedure similar to the hair plug treatment for men, up to 60 hair follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp and transplanted into small incisions in the top and bottom eyelids. By this, I mean that one by one, your doctor will sew the hairs into your eyelids. Once sewn in, the new lashes behave much like any other human hair (head hair grows about a centimetre a month) in that the transplants need to be occasionally trimmed or curled to achieve the full sweeping look of thick lashes. Sometimes I forget to trim mine and I take it as cue from my beloved other half when he grows silent and motions amusingly at his own eyelashes.

The 90-minute operation is performed under local anaesthetic and has a recovery time of four to five days with minimal bruising and swelling. You will be back to your normal activities in no time whether it’s work, cooking, playing foxy bingo online or gardening. Feeling confident and in style, you will be ready to make those around you envious of your new lashes.

The average cost in the US is $3000 per eye (that’s $6000 for both!), pricey I know, but it is a great investment that will give you long lashes permanently as the head hair follicles are transplanted right into the eyelids. Let’s do some calculations together: $300 for initial lash extensions plus $75 every 2 months for touch-ups, that’s $750 in one year with $450 shelled out subsequently for maintenance every few months. Having an eyelash transplant makes economical sense when the same price ($6000) will give you semi-permanent extensions for only 13 odd years.

On the other hand, an eyelash transplant will last you a lifetime. I know what I’d rather go for (and have!).

If you opt for an eyelash transplant, understand that this is a cosmetic procedure so it is very unlikely that you can claim it back on your insurance. Also, as with any surgery, there is the possibility of complications with permanent eyelash implants, and you risk damage to your eye, despite safety precautions taken by the surgeon.

For those who desire a procedure that does not include a knife,  semi permanent eyelash extensions could be the answer.
