Eyelids Part Four
Despite the non- surgical procedures that I have laid forth in the form of tape, glue and clippers for those who want to create a crease, there will always be those who are adamant on getting the real deal with immediate and permanent results . If you are going to go under the knife and get Asian blepharoplasty, also known as “double eyelid surgery”, I would highly advise you to do some thorough research on the topic before going through with it as all surgery is not without any risks.
Whilst we’re on the subject of eyelid surgery, thought I should mention that there is a non-incisional procedure called the DST method (Double Sutures and Twisting) that has been favoured by many Japanese since its introduction in 2001 and is slowly gaining popularity elsewhere especially in the US. It is minimally invasive, recovery time is kept short and is virtually scar-free. Furthermore, the procedure is reversible. I remember my mom getting her eyes done the traditionally way over 20 years ago and boy have we progressed since then in terms of technology and medical science! Long gone are the horrific black, swollen eyes that plague you for weeks and scare the living daylights out of children (I remember being frightened at the sight of my mom when I was only 8 or s0)…
This new technique involves the use of a suture, passing it through the upper eyelid structures in such a way, so as to create an upper eyelid crease, while positioning the suture to be concealed deep in the upper eyelid skin. All of this is done without making an incision in the upper eyelid skin. 5 days later, the stitches are taken out and voila! The created crease is left on permanently.

- Before DST procedure
- After DST procedure
The DST method is best for:
1) Those who have thin eyelid skin
2) Those with little eyelid fat and tight eyelid skin
3) Those who want a quick recovery time
On the other hand, the traditional incisional method is best for those who have thick eyelid skin or puffy and fatty eyelid or redundant skin as the DST method does not address any of these issues.
