Eyelids Part One
Eyelid tapes are one of the most popular Asian beauty tools amongst Asian women and are all the rage in some Asian countries. They work by creating a “double eyelid” and make your eyes bigger and rounder. Some women live by them and others even proclaim that after a period of time, the crease is left on permanentlly leaving you with permanent double lids. Personally I don’t use them as I already have a crease. But for those who lack one or who just want to enhance their eyes, eyelid tape is a useful little tool if you don’t want surgery. My own mother has had eyelid surgery about twenty years ago and has since gone for repeat sessions. She looks great but I also think she looked beautiful before she had the op. Each to their own and whatever makes you happy!
Eyelid tapes ressemble clear medical tape and they are two types currently on the market:
1) pre-cut, shaped ones that match your upper lid (though some trimming will still be required so that it suits your eye length)
2) ones that come in a roll (similar to the medical clear tapes)
What is eyelid tape best for?
1) Those that do not want to go under the knife
2) Those with a slight crease
3) Those with a crease
4) Those with droopy eyelids
5) Those with uneven creases (though if you have no crease at all, you would be better off using eyelid glue as the tape will show)
How to use eyelid tape:
1) Make sure your eye area is clean and makeup-free. You can apply makeup after, in fact this is recommend so that the tape is not visible.
2) Based on the curve and length of your shape, cut out a thin strip. Make sure the tape is slightly shorter than the length of your eye so they do not stick out on both ends. You can use either tweezers or your fingers to place the tape just a little above your lash line. Also don’t place the start of the tape right at the very inner corner either, leave about half a cm of space.
3) Look in the mirror and find your natural crease. Apply tape to this crease.
4) Open your eyes and blink a few times for a test run. You should not be able to see the eyelid tape. However, if there is a tiny bit still showing, not to worry, you can always apply eye makeup to cover this.
How to apply makeup to eyes with eyelid tape:
1) Apply eyeliner to the upper lashline to hide the tape
2)Apply a neutral eyeshadow to entire lid from lashline to browbone as a primer aid and to cover any redness or discoloration. Proceed with eyeshadow colour of your choice.
3) You can choose to also wear fake eyelashes to hide the tape even more and/to make your eyes even bigger.
You can get eyelid tape easily in Asia where they sell them in most beauty stores. If you are not based in Asia though, you can get them on Amazon where they sell my highly recommended tape called Eye Charm Double Eyelid Tape. This comes with an applicator, is easy to apply and is shaped to fit the contour of your eye, giving it a natural look. Also I have seen proof whereby if used over time, this tape will give you a permanent crease. Saying this, eyelid tape is safe to wear at night even whilst asleep. Click here
