Makeup for Coloured Skin
Right, I know that even though this site is first and foremost for my fellow yellow-skinned geishas, lots of other women of all colour and races have been benefiting from the tricks and news I have bashed out on this blogging platform and even my black friends have told me that they have employed many of the tricks I have talked about.
It seems like less than 10 years ago, the black woman found it frustratingly hard to find makeup shades (esp foundation, powder and concealer) that matched her skin tone and gradually, there was a boom in the makeup industry as leading makeup brands, as well, as celebrities rushed in to plug this hole in the market to produce makeup that did not turn black skin ashy and with colours that were more pigmented so that they would show up on black skin.
As you know, Asian women come in all colours, from the fairest skin to the dark skinned ravens and even some of us Asian gals will find it hard to find a suitable match for our skin colour. So to address the issue of dark skinned lovelies all around the globe, I would like to inform everyone that one of my favourite soul singers, Beverley Knight has just launched her own makeup range called K at Selfridges this week!

- K by Beverley Knight
Her new range has 15 products, from oil-free foundations through to eye liners and highlighters as well as Beverley’s personal favourite (and City Geisha’s!), the lip gloss. And with prices from £10 to £22 for a foundation, this collection is not only dedicated to overcoming make-up mishaps but keeping your purse, as well as your bank manager, happy too.
To all my American chums, you might not have heard of this woman but she is a very successful British solo artist here in the UK and one of my favourite songs of hers is Shoulda Woulda Coulda. Here’s the video of her performing the song live.

I am philipino and have got quite dark skin and have always struggled to find makeup shades that best suit me. Bobbi Brown is quite good and so is Prescriptives. Also Sleek, at Superdrug, is a very cheap brand that caters for the black market and i use some of their stuff as well, mainly concealer and powder. I am keen to check out Beverley’s range though. I love her music too!
i am an african-american woman and i follow your blog, having found some really useful tips and you’re right, your site is not just for asian women but for all women! if you are curious, it was my chinese colleague who introduced me to your site, she was checking out your blog a couple of months ago and I loved how you did your makeup in one of your posts and i’ve been a follower since.
Makeup for black skin (or dark skin) is getting so much better with so many leading brands and celebrities jumping on the wagon, I think this is great! Go Beverley!
One of my favourite songs of hers…. x
