Say Goodbye to Gummy Smiles
Haha, this picture here has got nothing to do with the suject title, but it sure got your attention right? I love gurning faces…..
Right, on to the topic at hand…
Gummy smiles are a common problem but few people actually realise that something can be done about this. And those that do know of the various methods would more than likely have heard of costly procedures ranging from porcelain veneers, gum re-contouring (where gum tissue is lasered off to reveal more of the teeth) to painful reconstructuring of the upper jaw…Ouch……
Well you needn’t go through all of that as City Geisha is here to inform you of an alternative procedure that is far less invasive, is very effective and only takes less than an hour. A gummy smile can be fixed in just one hour by lowering the upper lip and then repositioning it through a minor surgical procedure known as lip repositioning. More commonly done in the US than here in the UK and expect to pay around £800. As far as I am aware, only one cosmetic dentist carries out this procedure in the UK, Dr. Peter Fairbairn at Scarsdale Dental Clinic in Kensington. Click here to view their website.

Nifty, eh?
Lip repositioning is most often used with crown lengthening but can also be used on its own. This procedure is done by taking out some of the tissue on the inside of your upper lip. After removal, your lip is stitched to your gums. Stitching prohibits the muscles that lift your lip from revealing an excessively large gum line.
Lip repositioning is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about 45 minutes to complete.
Pros and Cons of Lip Repositioning
Pros
- Fast
- Easy
- Visible results
Cons
- Usually has to be done with crown lengthening (but not always- a consulation with the dentist will reveal whether this is necessary or not)
- Your cosmetic dentist can only remove a small amount of your lip
Also I’ve got to add another pro to the list above and that is your upper lip looks fuller too =) which can only be a plus in our never-ending quest for fat, luscious lips, right?

LMAO, that photo at the very top is hilarious.
Have you seen Miley Cyrus’ new smile? It makes me wonder if she’s had anything done to her teeth herself as it is less gummy than before…
Miley has had veneers put onto her teeth
