If you are shopping around for a skin brightening cream, chances are you will be inundated with information and hundreds of products will be vying for your attention. Not least the dizzying array of ingredients will further confuse you.  I have moderate problem skin such as acne as well as pigmentation problems and have tried many skin brightening products out there to lighten acne scars, dark patches, etc.  Some work great, others are less successful and a few handful are simply to be avoided as they do nothing at all and not to mention that they contain harmful chemicals.

This product ranks highly on my list. The results really surprised me! It does work quite well! I liked how it went on smoothly and was moisturizing as well. Every summer I usually develop sun spots on my hands, neck and face and I have found that after 2 weeks use of this cream, the spots would remarkably fade and it would render my skin smooth and supple too. This works equally well on my acne scars. DHC Alpha Arbutin

This Japanese-bred brand is one of the most trusted ones out there when it comes to skin brightening products. I am sure you have seen Japanese skin before and have marveled and how clean and bright their complexion is. DHC Alpha Arbutin range consists of the White Cream, White Powder and White Mask. I have tried all three and can say that they all do work very, very well, though I do have gripes about the White Powder. It is frustrating getting the application right onto the affected areas, being a powder it can go everywhere and as it goes from powder to liquid, you have to be quick in the application. I have found that the best way is to tap some into the cap and then with a clean, small makeup brush, dab it on and it does absorb quickly which is a plus. Best to use this on top of the White Cream once fully absorbed. The White Mask is to be used once a week and I have found that all three products have rendered my skin much brighter and clearer. Despite its effectiveness and quality packaging, I have given DHC 4 out of 5 stars because of the tricky application with the White Powder and some people may find this line expensive.

Vikki Lamotta’s Perfect Skin Lightener

Another great product that works well is Perfect Skin Lightener by Vikki Lamotta. This company has been around for about 25 years and has a respectable reputation in skin enhancing products that are safe and effective. Perfect Skin Lightener is made with all natural ingredients and definitely does work, but I found that it took longer than most creams. I had sun spots on my chest and around the side of my nose and found that it took 3 weeks for any visible results, after which my skin improved remarkably (website states that you will see initial improvements in less than 2 weeks).  So if you are patient enough, this could be the cream for you. Also the packaging could be improved on as it comes in a pot so bacterial transfer can be easily done if your fingers are not clean. The packaging also invites air contamination so you have to be extra careful when storing it after use. However, it is great value for money at only $39.95 which is a great bargain for pot.

One final note: The products I have outlined above are made with natural ingredients and do not contain harmful chemicals like Hydroquinone and Mercury. However if you must use Hydroquinone use a product with 2% or less for safety. Under no circumstances should you use any lightener that has Mercury. Mercury is very poisonous to the human body.

The safe ingredients that are used in the products listed on this page are Alpha and Beta Arbutin, Gigawhite, Kojic Acid, Azaelaic Acid, and Glutathione. These naturally occurring substances are the most effective and therefore are most commonly used.
